  • Violinist Matthew Reichert and pianist Christopher Weldon will give a recital on Sunday, September 13 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Church, 619 Lexington (at 54th Street) in New York City. Tickets will be $10 for general admission, $5 for students and senior citizens. Their program will include Mozart's Sonata No. 1 in G Major, Op. 1; Brahm's Sonata No. 3 in D minor, Op. 108; Dvorak's Romantic Pieces, Op. 75; and Saint-Saens Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, Op. 28.     American violinist Matthew Reichert, a silver medalist in the 1995 Mondavi International Competition for Strings, began violin studies at the age of five. In 1985 he was accepted into the studio of the renowned violin pedagogue Dorothy DeLay at the Aspen Music School and in 1988 moved to New York to study at the Juilliard School. Recent appearances include performances in Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, At Corbett Hall in Cincinnati, and performances of the Shostakovich and Haydn Violin Concerti with the Performers Ensemble of Greater New York.

    Christopher Weldon

    Pianist Christopher Weldon, a native of Minnesota, was named winner of the Kosciusko Foundation National Chopin Competition held in New York City. As a result, he performed at the 1997 International Chopin Festival held in Duszniki Zdroj, Poland, and was featured on WNYC in The Listening Roon, hosted by John Schaeffer. Most recently, he performed Chopin's Piano Concerto in E Minor with the Buffalo Philharmonic and Mozart's Piano Concerto in A major, K. 414, with the Brno Chamber Orchestra. As winner of the 1996 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition at the Juilliard School,Mr Weldon performed in a live radio broadcast on WQXR's McGraw-Hill Young Artist showcase in October of 1996. In 1994 he was named winner of the Julliard Piano Concerto Competition, resulting in a performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto in C minor, K.491 with Juilliard Symphony. He was also named winner of the E. Nakamichi Piano Concerto Competition at the Aspen Music Festival in 1993 where he performed Liszt's Piano Concerto in A major with the Aspen Orchestra under the direction of Sergiu Comissiona. He has concertized extensively throughout the Midwest and in New York City with appearances in Alice Tully Hall, C. Michael Paul Hall, the Julliard Theater, and Morse Recital Hall. Christopher Weldon began his musical studies at the age of six at the Central Minnesota Music School where he studied with Dr. Paul Wirth. He attended the Interlochern Arts Camp in 1990 where he received the Van Cliburn Piano Scholarshi. He has received prizes at the J. Earl Lee National Piano Competition, the International Stravinsky Awards, and was most recently one of twelve semi-finalists in the prestigisous 1997 Naumburg International Piano Competition. In May of 1997, Mr. Weldon received his Master of Music from the Juilliard School where he is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree under the guidance of Abbey Simon. He currently resides in New York City.
